Kris Maquin, senior associate of the White-Collar Crime practice area, offered a first workshop for the Feminist Trans-Organization, specifically in favor of the Casa Trans Centro de Lima. The latter promotes access to the rights of LGBTIQ+ people through the generation of strategic alliances and the construction of projects for their community.
The meeting, which took place on July 11, addressed the main situations that trans women, who are often victims of discrimination and harassment, go through.
In this space, Maquin answered questions such as what the complaint mechanisms are, how they can report threats or requests for “quotas” and whether they can file anonymous complaints. She also shared information on how to identify a situation of discrimination and what they can do when faced with discrimination by authorities and justice operators, especially police and serenazgos.
In addition, questions such as: What is habeas corpus? What is it for? Where is it filed? Who files it? Is there a template that must be followed? What organizations can trans women turn to for support? Can they be beneficiaries of the Women’s Emergency Center service? What are protection measures? What are they for? In what situations can they request them? How and to whom do they request them? Can they be denied?
